Sport has played a big part in my life, so after leaving college, I decided to pursue a degree in it. However, after graduating, I started working in IT and found something else which I was very good at! Since then, I have built a career in IT in tech through specialist roles, learning how to use a number of Cisco Systems and technologies.
In 2017, I moved over to CDW within the ServiceNet team, working closely with a range of solutions and services. My curiosity and intrigue with technology made my transition to Solutions Specialist feel natural, as I was curious to learn more about the technology which I was quoting services for. It’s taken a lot of learning with the support of CDW to get to where I am today, but from this, I have been recognised across the team - and from my manager - as a quick learner and have been approached to undertake more responsibilities in such a short amount of time.
Something I love about CDW’s culture is that the ethos of the company is to see everybody as equals. There are a lot of similarities between my family at Team Brit and my relationship across the Solutions team. It’s a tight knit group of people who enable, encourage and aid one another to develop their learning and opportunities. It’s also great that I can reach out to my mentors from across the business to get invaluable support and advice.
This sense of team and wholeness is something I strive to bring into the Disability Support Network, a business resource group which I am a co-leader of. Every month, we come together with the common goal to improve the day-to-day life of our CDW co-workers with a disability and equality across the business. We are a registered Disability Confident Employer, and continually aim to improve accessibility and support to make our workplace a safe haven for all disabilities.
One of my most acclaimed achievements during my time at CDW is joining Team Brit, the first fully disabled race team in the UK! I wouldn’t be able to race without the corporate sponsorship from CDW, keeping the car in tip-top condition with the best technology. It’s an amazing opportunity to be part of history and as a team we are changing perceptions of disability through motorsport. It feels incredible to have the support of CDW co-workers cheering from the stands.
