At CDW, we’re proud to help Sanctuary Housing with not just their IT requirements as one of our clients, but by helping them support others through our volunteering efforts. Sanctuary is a housing and care provider that delivers housing and care to those in need and has become one of the largest not-for-profit housing associations in the UK, helping thousands. Some of the CDW team have used their time to volunteer with the charity and make a real difference in the lives of those it helps. Here’s some of the work we’ve completed:
Leicester – 30th June
It’s important for people to be able to enjoy the inside as well as the outside of their homes, and this means having an outdoor area that’s a pleasure to sit in. In June, members of CDW’s Integrated Technology Services (Managed and Pro Services) and Sales teams visited Asra House in Leicester to make the outside of the reception and garden areas welcoming spaces for visitors and residents on warm summer days. They jet-washed the rear garden communal space and removed dead vegetation from outside reception, before installing and preparing planters and filling them with fresh flowers.
Basingstoke – 25th July
A garden can be a great sanctuary in a home and a connection to nature, but it’s not always possible to create one of your own. In July, four members of our ITS team visited a Sanctuary Housing site in Basingstoke and completed a variety of tasks. They included clearing the weeds, laying down membrane and wood chips to prep the outside area for new pots and planters, and planting new shrubs and flowers to create a welcoming garden that will be enjoyed by the residents.
Edmonton – 26th July
Sanctuary Housing manage a number of care homes across the UK, ensuring residents get care and accommodation that enriches their lives. It was one of these locations that nine volunteers from the ITS team visited to offer their services. They gave the outside area a spruce up by painting the new fences and tidying the area ready for the residents to enjoy. The care home staff also took care of our team by offering refreshments, biscuits, and lunch throughout the day, which was very gratefully received.
Warrington – 1st August
Seven members of the ITS and Sales teams were pleased to be able to help the Sanctuary Housing site in Warrington with their communal room. Used daily by the residents, a revitalisation had been on the to-do list for the house since January. The help of our team meant it could be completed in just one day. Our volunteers prepped the room, moved the furniture, and gave it a brand-new lick of paint, freshening up the space.
At CDW, we’re always happy to be able to do our part and assist Sanctuary Housing and other charitable organisations with their wonderful work. Kevin Wright, Practice Lead, Project Management at CDW, was one of the volunteers: “As I reflect on my day of volunteering with Sanctuary Housing, I'm reminded that the impact of volunteering extends beyond the immediate tasks accomplished. It’s about contributing to a larger purpose, collaborating with others, and experiencing first-hand the positive changes that can arise when people come together for a shared cause.”
Yunus Giwa, Senior Officer – Work Programmes, Care, at Sanctuary Housing, works closely with CDW on our volunteering. He said: “CDW's dedication to giving back to the community is evident through their enthusiastic involvement in various projects like gardening, painting, and engaging in activities with our residents.
“Their contributions don't just beautify our surroundings; they create lasting memories and foster a sense of togetherness that enriches the lives of our residents.”
Emily Scott, Social Value Development Officer at Sanctuary Housing, said: “We are thrilled to be working with CDW, and are looking forward to collaborating on several customer-focussed initiatives that will make a real difference to the lives of our customers.”
